Overlooking the world of SBS2003 and Office Systems 2003

Install the Exchange Event Service

The Exchange Event Service is not included in the default installation of Exchange.  To get it installed, you have to go to the Add/Remove Applet of the Control Panel window (on the server box), select Microsoft Exchange, then click the Add/Remove Button.  You will then get a message saying it could not remove Exchange.  You will have to halt all the Exchange services, and try again.  It is better to unplug all the clients from your hub, to make sure no disturbing requests are entered from users who are unaware that you are up to something serious.

What do you get when the Event Service is Installed

When the Event Service is installed, you will be able to see several manifestations of its presence.  In the Service Manager console, you will see it in the list of services and it should say it is started and that its startup is Automatic.  At least, that is how it should look after the server box has been rebooted.  Another indicator of its presence is found in the Exchange Administrator Console.  In the Left-hand pane, under the Server node, expand the Folders node and then the System Folders Node.  In the System Folders, you will see an Events Root node.  Expand that and you will see the EventConfig_<ServerName> folder.  If you select the Event Roots node, then the EventConfig_ folder appears in the Right -hand pane.  Double click it in the Right-hand pane, or click the Properties button in the toolbar.  A many-tabbed properties panel appears.  Get familiar with this particular path through the Exchange Administrator.  You will need to come back to this properties panel several times.
