How do I get rid of that annoying UID-Password Request when
accessing my Intranet?
|
The problem generally lies in the default security settings that are
put in place during Internet Explorer installation. The default
setting for the Intranet zone is Medium. Since it is an intranet,
and not exposed to malicious hackers, the intranets do not need a medium
level of security. Your intranet zone should be set to low
security, and placed outside the pervue of any Proxy processing.
You do this in the following procedure:
 | Open Internet Explorer and click on Tools|Internet Options.
Click the Security tab. |
 | Click the Local Intranet icon, then move the Security Level slider
to Low |
 | Click the Sites button. Make sure all three boxes are
checked, then click the Advanced button. |
 | Add your intranet sites to the table on the Local Intranet
panel. Type in the root name and then click the Add
button. For root name, use the string that you will normally
use to access the intranet--http://10.0.0.40, rather than http://<servername>/Testnet. |
 | Click OK twice to get back to the Security tab. |
 | Click the Connections Tab, and then the LAN Settings button. |
 | If your system is using a Proxy, then click the Advanced button. |
 | Enter all your Intranet Web Sites, by root name, into the
exceptions table there. |
 | Click OK all the way out to Internet Explorer. You should
now be able to access your intranets without having to give any User
Name or password. |
